Skin diseases and skin changes related to aging have a significant impact on health and quality of life, even though they may not be life threatening. Each year, more than 140 million people in the United States visit a medical professional for skin related conditions. Prescription drug skin therapy expenditures exceed $6 billion annually. Moreover, U.S. dermatologists and plastic surgeons perform more than 9 million minimally invasive aesthetic procedures each year. An aging population, rising disposable income, and increasing acceptance among the broader society for these procedures should lead to significant demand in the years ahead.
